The CODMAN® PIC transducer consists of a miniature strain gauge pressure sensor mounted in a titanium case at the tip of a 100 cm flexible nylon tube. The microsensor monitors intracranial pressure directly at the source: subdural, parenchymal or intraventricular. The information is transmitted electronically to the monitor rather than through a hydrostatic column or fiber optics. The low profile (1.3 mm tip diameter) and high mechanical strength of the sensor allow for minimally invasive insertion and explantation without transducer breakage.
The use of the microsensor is indicated for monitoring both intraparenchymal and subdural pressure. The Codman Microsensor Kit with Metal Skull Screw consists of a CODMAN MICROSENSOR ICP Transducer, a skull screw with built-in compression cap and optional washer, a dura mater obturator/perforator, and a drill tip with depth guide and hex key. It is designed to be used with any suitable Codman pressure monitoring interface or device.
Elimination of maintenance requirements associated with fluid coupled systems
Codman's ICP Microsensor transducer eliminates the need for constant alignment of the transducer to the patient's head and periodic zeroing. False readings associated with blockages, air bubbles, or movement of the patient's fluid lines are no longer a concern.
Precision and minimum drift
Studies performed on Codman's ICP Microsensor transducer demonstrate a high degree of accuracy and stability in ICP monitoring. One study showed a mean drift of 0.9 mm Hg over an average of 7.2 days of monitoring, with 25 percent of sensors showing no drift over the entire monitoring period.
Small, flexible and low profile
The small size and flexibility allow for low-profile tunneling under the scalp and kinking of the transducer without breakage or interruption of monitoring.
MRI Resistant
The Codman ICP Microsensor transducer is MRI rugged and can be imaged in the MR environment when used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions for use.
