Pressure is controlled via distal slit valves (mean H2O pressure 5–9 cm), 4 slits 90° apart. The proximal tip is drilled, open and cut at an angle for easy insertion. Using the Codman® Touhy needle, the James lumbar-peritoneal shunt is inserted into the spinal subarachnoid space.
